Ukrhydroenergo enters the market for guarantees of electricity origin

Guarantees of Electricity Origin (GEO) not only allow producers and consumers to actively support the development of renewable energy and increase environmental responsibility but also offer significant financial benefits. Therefore, we urge all interested legal entities to register on the relevant trading platforms and take part in auctions to purchase and sell guarantees of electricity origin.

‘We are just starting our journey in the Ukrainian market, and there is a lot of work to be done at the state level to stimulate demand and interest in the circulation of guarantees of origin. At the same time, the availability of certified guarantees opens new prospects for us in the European market, where consumers are actively looking for clean energy sources. We expect that the sale of guarantees of origin will not only become an additional source of income for Ukrhydroenergo but will also increase the company's investment attractiveness,’ said Bohdan Sukhetskyi, Deputy CEO for Commercial Activities of Ukrhydroenergo.

In October 2024, Ukraine initiated the free circulation of GEOs, marking a major milestone for renewable energy producers. This was made possible through collaboration among key energy market players, with the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) implementing the Grexel platform to manage the Register of Guarantees of Origin.

As part of Ukraine’s international commitments to the European Union and the Energy Community, Market Operator JSC and Ukrainian Energy Exchange LLC have launched trading platforms to ensure transparent GEO transactions.

Ukrhydroenergo is the first Ukrainian company to secure an account in the Register, marking a significant step toward integrating into the European clean energy market.
