Japanese еxpertise for Ukrainian hydropower: A new step toward the construction of the Kaniv PSPP

Ukrhydroenergo has signed a MoU with the consulting company PADECO Co., Ltd.

The parties confirmed their interest in long-term cooperation, expertise exchange, and conducting a feasibility study of the project.
 

The Kaniv pumped storage power plant is a key project aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security. Its implementation will enhance the flexibility of the power system, ensure its stable operation, and enable adaptation to the growing share of renewable energy sources.

Pumped storage power plants play a crucial role in balancing the power grid — they store electricity during periods of surplus generation and release it during peak demand. These facilities provide rapid system response to changes in consumption and support the efficient integration of renewable energy.
