In Brussels, top executives of Ukrhydroenergo met with a delegation from the German state development bank KfW to explore potential partnerships in the restoration and modernization of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Special attention was given to grant financing for recovery projects following Russian missile attacks.

The Ukrhydroenergo delegation included CEO Ihor Syrota, Supervisory Board member Vitalii Kushnirov, and Deputy CEO Mariia Bishko. Representing KfW were Lorenz Gessner, Director of the Kyiv and Chisinau Office, Project Manager Salvatore Calanduccia, and Energy Portfolio Manager Niklas Gehrke.

Discussions focused on the reconstruction of hydropower plants, strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure, and the deployment of hybrid systems and energy storage technologies. The parties reviewed Ukrhydroenergo’s needs in modernizing facilities, including the procurement of large-scale equipment and machinery essential for emergency response after missile strikes.

Ukrhydroenergo has a long-standing and successful history of cooperation with major international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank. Expanding collaboration with KfW presents new opportunities to strengthen the company’s internal capabilities, attract additional financing, and implement projects aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s energy resilience.
