Ukrhydroenergo and the World Bank: 29 years of partnership and sustained support to strengthen energy independence

On 25 April, Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, Steven Walsh, member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrhydroenergo, and Maria Bishko, Deputy CEO for Investment and International Finance of Ukrhydroenergo, met with Steven Clarke, Energy Specialist, Stephanie Gil, Practice Manager, Energy and Extractives, Europe and Central Asia Infrastructure Practice Group and other World Bank's specialists involved in supporting Ukrhydroenergo's projects in Washington, DC.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ihor Sirota thanked the Bank's representatives for their longstanding cooperation:

"We are sincerely grateful that we have been fruitfully and effectively cooperating with our reliable partner - the World Bank, for 29 years. We are grateful to the World Bank's management for their sustainable support of Ukrhydroenergo's projects. Also we would like to thank Silvia Martinez Romero, Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank and Koji Nishida, Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank, for their significant contribution to the implementation of ongoing projects between Ukrhydroenergo and the World Bank," said Ihor Syrota. - "With the financial support of the World Bank, we were able to implement extremely important projects to reconstruct HPP's and PSPP's equipment and continue implementing Ukrhydroenergo's priority projects. We are especially grateful for the opportunity to implement the project of additional financing for the emergency restoration of critical equipment for the company's stations that have suffered from numerous attacks".

During the meeting, the parties discussed future cooperation in the implementation of promising investment projects, the key goal of which is to restore hydropower capacities to increase Ukrhydroenergo's shunting capabilities to balance the integrated energy system of Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting, the bank's representatives emphasised their sustainable support for Ukrhydroenergo's projects.
