Strengthening recovery capacities: German machine builders to provide training for Ukrainian hydropower engineers
November 11, Warsaw. The top managers of Voith Hydro GmbH & Co KG company specializing in the production of turbines and generators, met with the management of PJSC “Ukrhydroenergo”, Ukraine's largest hydroelectric generating company.
Gerhard Seyrling, CEO VH Austria, Tomasz Dudkiewicz, Voith Group Regional Manager - Poland, Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania and Ihor Syrota, CEO of PJSC “Ukrhydroenergo”, discussed the possibility of specialized training for Ukrhydroenergo's engineering staff through the HydroSchool program as part of humanitarian aid supported by the German government.
"For Ukrhydroenergo, this training is another step in strengthening our capabilities to rebuild and reconstruct the damaged hydroelectric power plants. Our specialists are also interested in acquiring modern skills that are currently relevant in the process of modernizing hydropower plants with the transition to EU technical regulations, optimizing operations, and new technologies. In addition, it is now important to train the company's own experts to work on projects financed by the World Bank, EBRD and EIB. Thus, by completing HydroSchool training programs and workshops led by Voith Hydro Austria, Ukrhydroenergo’s engineers and other specialists will deepen their knowledge of modern and innovative approaches to operation, modernization and production modeling. This is extremely important, because any restoration is not only about financing and technology, but also about modern knowledge that is implemented and applied directly in the process of electricity generation," said Ihor Syrota.
Within the HydroSchool training project, Ukrainian hydropower engineers will be able to obtain education and training for industry experts on a wide range of topics: turbine, generator, excitation system, control system, and hydropower plants in general. The training will take place in Austria and Ukraine. It is also planned to involve specialists from the Ukrainian design institute PJSC “Ukrhydroproject” in the training program.
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Voith Hydro Austria and Ukrhydroenergo as regards the implementation of the training program project.
In addition, the parties discussed thoroughly the possibilities of future cooperation between the companies in the reconstruction and supply of equipment for the further restoration of hydropower facilities damaged in result of russian aggression in Ukraine.
