Ukrhydroenergo expects to receive a EUR 21,000,000 tranche from the EIB for urgent repairs and modernization of key hydropower plants
This is the first tranche under the Finance Contract for a total amount of EUR 120,000,000 for the “Support of UHE Stability and Recovery (Restoration of equipment to improve operational stability and reliability of hydropower plants)” Project, provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) with EU support. The Contract was signed on 10 July 2025, in Rome during the Ukraine recovery conference (URC2025).
Announcement regarding the allocation of the Tranche for the amount of EUR 21,000,000 for Ukrhydroenergo was made on September 17, 2026 at the high-level meeting of G7+ Ukraine Energy Coordination Group – “Energy Ramstein”.
“We express our sincere gratitude to the European Investment Bank for its long-standing cooperation and support for our company, particularly in implementing restoration projects during the war. Today, international partnerships are a key resource for us in restoring the Ukrainian power grid as a whole, as well as hydropower plants and pumped-storage hydropower plants in particular. The funds to be allocated under this tranche will help the company strengthen its hydropower infrastructure, making it more resilient to threats and better adapted to modern challenges,” notes Bogdan Sukhetskyi, Director General of Ukrhydroenergo.
For information:
Ukrhydroenergo has a long and successful experience of partnership with the European Investment Bank. Since 2014, contracts aimed at the reconstruction of hydro units have been implemented as part of the cooperation with the EIB. However, in the context of a full-scale war, funding is also being directed toward the restoration of damaged hydropower and hydromechanical equipment, as well as the restoration of capacity lost as a result of massive rocket attacks by the russian federation. The European Investment Bank provides Ukrhydroenergo with loan funds for a special purpose of restoration and modernization of hydropower plants.
