Valentyn Gvozdiy, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, highlighted this progress during the "Ukraine's Representation at COP 29" conference.

In a panel discussion, he emphasised:

"Ukrhydroenergo was the first to enter the market for guarantees of origin for electricity produced from renewable sources, issuing over 68,000 guarantees through the initial two auctions, equivalent to 68,000 MWh of clean energy. This milestone represents a crucial step in developing Ukraine's renewable energy sector and an avenue to attract investment for the company’s sustainable growth."

Valentyn Gvozdiy further noted that guarantees of origin could become a practical tool for businesses aiming at green transformation, facilitating Ukraine’s integration into the European energy market. In the future, Ukrainian guarantees of origin could play a significant role in adapting to new conditions for exporting goods to the EU, encouraging producers to switch to renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint to meet European environmental standards.

It is worth recalling that, despite the challenges of war, Ukraine continues to uphold its environmental commitments under the Paris Agreement — an international initiative targeting global warming, driven primarily by the rising emissions of greenhouse gases. The introduction of free trade in guarantees of origin for electricity in Ukraine in October 2024 marks an essential step in the ongoing development of the country’s renewable energy sector.
