On the night of June 6, the Russian occupation forces demolished Kakhovka HPP
As a result of the explosion made inside the powerhouse, Kakhovka HPP has been completely destroyed. The power plant is beyond repair.
According to preliminary forecasts, the reservoir is expected to discharge over the next 4 days.
As of 9:00 am on June 6, the water level in Kakhovka reservoir is rapidly decreasing, and evacuation of the population from potential inundation areas has begun.
The uncontrolled decrease in the reservoir water level poses an additional threat to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP. Water from Kakhovka reservoir is used for the NPP’s turbine condensers and safety systems. Currently, the plant's cooling pond is filled. Ukrainian personnel at Zaporizhia NPP are monitoring all indicators.
The President of Ukraine has convened the National Security and Defense Council.
Ukrhydroenergo is currently analyzing the situation, and our experts are working to assess the extent of the damage, water flow and volume. Information will be updated promptly.
