Update on the situation at Dnipro HPP as of 20:00, March 22.
- In the morning, from 04:10 tо 7 am, Russian missiles hit the Dnipro HPP in Zaporizhzhia.
- Emergency services quickly arrived at the venue. The fire at the damaged facility was localized around 8 am.
- The situation at the Dnipro HPP dam is under control. There is no threat of a dam break. However the extent of the damage requires a thorough examination.
- As a result of several missile strikes at the Dnipro HPP, electrical equipment and hydraulic units were damaged. Significant number of building structures were damaged.
The station is out of operation.
- There were no casualties among Dnipro HPP employees.
- Ukrhydroenergo is taking all possible measures to ensure the passage of water downstream.
- Consequences. Hydropower plays a key role in regulating peak loads. In the context of the power system, Ukraine has lost more than 1000 MW of regulating capacity. Compensating mechanisms will be found to supply energy to consumers. However, these are serious losses for the power system now, in the situation of constant terrorist attacks on energy facilities.
- Ukrhydroenergo will be able to provide a preliminary assessment of the consequences in a few days.
- Negotiations are already underway with international partners and financial institutions to attract support for the restoration of Dnipro HРР.
- Ukrhydroenergo draws the attention of the international community to the need for quick decisions and fundamental action. The destruction of the Kakhovka HPP and the terrorist attack on the Dnipro HPP require that the Russian side be held responsible for targeted attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
